Sustained Market Growth in 2006: Benefits and Challenges
Welcome to the latest update from Allan|Carter where we briefly review some of the trends in communications technology recruitment and share some news with you.
If you are a client looking for a recruitment partner who understands the communications technology marketplace, or are a candidate looking to discuss your career options, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Telemanagement World 2006
Scott Carter reflects on our visit to this key event:
“The TeleManagement Forum’s annual event in Nice attracted a record number of visitors this year, with more than 3,000 attending. As regular visitors to this “Mecca of OSS/BSS”, we noted not just the increased attendance, but also a much more focussed attitude than in previous years. I would describe the mood of 2004 as “gloomy”, 2005 as “more hopeful” and 2006 as “down to business”.
Each year there is a favourite buzzword; a key technology that is predicted to drive the next phase of growth. This year “IPTV” was keenly discussed with delegates debating the challenges and opportunities of this new technology. Indeed, several of our clients have recently asked us to recruit consultants with a knowledge of this emerging technology area. “Convergence” continued to be a favoured topic for discussion and debate; see more on this topic in our guest article below.
Delegates at TMW 2006 told us that they were looking forward to expanding their sales and consulting capabilities. This increased optimism has been reflected by our experience since TMW, with the demand for high-quality OSS/BSS sales and professional services increasing significantly.”
Allan|Carter adds key clients to its growing strength in Preferred Supplier Relationships
We are delighted to announce that four of our clients who hold Preferred Supplier Lists have invited us to be a part of that exclusive relationship, adding to an already strong client list which we have established over the last seven years. These include HP, IBM, Sun and Intel who join LogicaCMG for whom we have been a preferred supplier since 2004. More significantly, we still work with the same clients year after year, whether they maintain a preferred supplier list or not. We believe that only by working in this very close way do we provide an excellent, consistent service for our clients and a stimulating, satisfying career for our team of consultants. And we can only provide the best service by recruiting, developing and retaining first-rate, enthused employees. Just like our clients..

Industry and Company Growth
There is undoubtedly sustained market growth in the communications technology sector this year and we see this in both the range of our clients (software, hardware, consultancy and services) and the volume of work that we are now involved in. There is always the fear that it might be a bubble or simply a reflection of the demand from the Service Providers and Enterprise Customers for speculative proposals and that in turn fuels recruitment but then leads to subsequent redundancies because there is no real underlying growth. But our clients are now reporting significant and committed business from their end customers: large corporations that have critical needs to update their systems and processes and need to invest in new technologies and product offerings for their end-users.
So we, in turn, need to keep recruiting. Thus we are delighted to welcome Samantha Smith to our team of Consultants.
After finishing her degree in Theology and Drama, Samantha moved into technical recruitment. With over 4 years experience as an account manager recruiting for national blue chip clients predominately in the ISP sector Samantha brings an immediate understanding of our market sector as well as a bright, hungry intelligence and excellent customer-facing skills.
