Welcome to the latest update from Allan|Carter where we briefly review some of the trends in communications technology recruitment and share some news with you.

Market Shift Leads to a Shortage of Pre-Sales Consultants

There has been a significant increase in demand for Pre-Sales consultants this year, as the market picks up, particularly in the fields of Service Delivery Creation, Service Delivery Platforms and a large number of other such emerging categories. This is all coming from the need for the large Service Providers to open up their network to data delivery partners in order to create the “Value Added Services” with which to keep and grow their subscribers. We all understand this, but the question is, “where are we going to find these people from a static or shrinking talent pool?”. Read more of Jenny Montgomery's article here.

Convergence: “Mobile and Content”, “IP and IT” or “OSS and EMS”?

Convergence appears to have been one of the most well used phrases of the year, but what do we mean by the term? We have seen significant activity from the Service Delivery Vendors such as First Hop, who are in the process of defining the market for bringing value added services to the handset. We have also worked with a leading middleware vendor who is driving convergence between the IT infrastructure and the Intelligent IP-based Network. A third category of convergence is the traditionally telecoms focussed Operational Support System (OSS) vendors who are expanding their offerings to support the full Enterprise Systems Management (ESM) functions required to manage a converged IT and Telecoms infrastructure. Regardless of how you define “Convergence”, there is no doubt that our market continues to evolve at an exciting and relentless pace!

Increased optimism spreads recruitment activity across Europe

As we look back at the assignments we have worked on this year, it is striking how many are for roles outside the UK. Increased optimism and more demanding clients mean that our customers are once again investing across Europe as well as increasing their UK headcount. In the last 12 months alone, we have worked on roles based in France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Italy and of course the UK. As our market matures, employers are looking for suppliers, such as Allan|Carter, to move away from country-based recruitment models to networking with the best talent right across EMEA. We are also aware that many candidates are becoming increasingly flexible over their base location. We see these trends continuing as market confidence grows.
